Danger! Danger!

Update 7/24/10:  Okay, perhaps I was being a little dramatic.  It’s not an accident I work in the theatre.  However, my willingness to abandon my blog so quickly leads me to think that I should take a summer hiatus.  You should be outside anyway.  The sun is shining!

Update 10:30 am:  The mistake has been corrected and my Alexandrian co-authors have had their blogs re-instated.   However, our fearless leader, the good H.M. Stuart, has resigned from leading us and the future of Alexandria is uncertain.

A terrible event has occurred in cyberspace.  The blog Alexandria at WordPress has been shut down under the guise of violations of Terms of Service, although no such violations occurred.  I have been a contributing author in Alexandria for about six months.  I hadn’t mentioned it here yet as I was not quite sure where it was leading (and most of my contributions were re-posts from SaraToday).  Nevertheless I am quite upset to find that the work of many intelligent and creative is people is just gone baby gone like the wind in 60 seconds. You can read more about what’s happened here.

In addition to the pillaging of Alexandria, several of the other authors’ personal blogs were shut down too.  I’m not sure how I escaped (so far).  Maybe it’s alphabetical and they just haven’t gotten to me yet.  Quick!  Copy this link to my flickr account – if I am shut down I will put more info. there.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/26720942@N04/

I always knew that some catastrophic event could occur that would lead to losing all of my work – an electromagnetic pulse, for example, or zombie attack.  But I never imagined all of my writing might be purposely deleted for no reason at all (or a secret reason that cannot be stated).  Right now I don’t really feel like continuing this WordPress blog.  What’s the point if it could all just disappear?  Also, it would feel disrespectful to my former Alexandria co-authors to keep on posting here when they have lost their work.

It’s funny how quickly circumstances can change.  Yesterday I would never have imagined quitting this, but today I think it might be the right decision.  When I started blogging, 2 years and 289 posts ago, I figured nobody would read it but my mom (thanks Mom!)  But I’ve gotten 54,462 hits from 132 countries, my mom contributed a post of her own, five friends started their own blogs, and I have the number one Chastity Belt picture on Google Images (the credit says ScrapeTV, but it’s my picture from Amsterdam; they stole it somehow when it reached #7).

I have a lot on my plate these days and I haven’t been devoting much energy to this.  I haven’t even gotten around to mentioning that I got my full time job back.  I think it might be time to move on, although I’m not sure what form that will take.  I may start another blog (somewhere else!) or my own website.  If Alexandria should rise from the ashes, I will most certainly keep writing there.

In the meantime, Comments will remain open and I’ll be checking in and frantically trying to save my favorite posts.  I’ll put pictures of our deck and patio renovations on Flickr. And don’t worry, I’ll keep fitting in things. It just may be awhile before you can see it.

Introducing Dana

In the mood for a rant?  Err, I mean thoughtful commentary … now introducing Philly Girl in CA.  My BFF Dana is moving to San Diego after living on the east coast and she’ll be blogging about her adventures.

Well I found out this week that not much has changed in the last 10 years except for the fact that I am like 0.05% less dramatic, and I think I use the word ironic less. So when I was packing my stuff, I found my journal from between the ages of 19 and 23, apparently everything was “ironic” and I also liked to use the words “yet” and “at the same time” when I compared my conflicting emotions, ie “I feel so excited YET scared” or ” I am so happy AND AT THE SAME TIME so depressed”. I was a BIG fan of the conflicting emotions and also quite the philosopher “growing up bites”. Anyway, why don’t I just share a little morsel with you. I feel like I literally could have written this one last week.

For Dana’s funny diary entry check out Philly Girl in CA.

Dear Loyal Readers and One Hit Wonders

Hello everyone.

I just realized that for the past, oh, 4 months or so, I have forgotten to check my spam box for real comments that were accidentally blocked.  I discovered several comments by people just sitting there, sadly unread and ignored.  All wayward comments have been approved and I apologize for having, in effect, censored people.

Sorry!  I welcome your commentary and will remember to check the spam more frequently.

Cheers,

Sara
