Fierce Fab Clothes for $1
If you live near the Twin Cities and love finding interesting and unusual clothing then you seriously need to head on over (run don’t walk) to the CostumeRentals annual pre-Halloween sale. Everything from vintage dresses to leotards to crazy costume pieces and masks. $1 !!!
This afternoon I stopped by for a sneak peek (I used to work there part-time) and I must say the ladies really outdid themselves this year. There is at least twice as much as in years past. There are leather jackets, hats, belts, bags & purses, a ton of ties, at least 50 pair of men’s pants (slacks, jeans and a few spiffy plaids), some very used but unique stage shoes, and a rack of wedding dresses (perfect for your zombie bride costume). Also a rack of petticoats and crinolines which would be just smashing with combat boots, dahling. There are modern clothes as well as period pieces. I spent $7 dollars and am especially thrilled with my new oh-so-80s little black dress. (Argyle or striped tights? Decisions, decisions.)

Pothead
Umm … my pothead costume from last Halloween isn’t actually for sale, but there are equally strange and delightful items.
Costume Rentals is a combined project of the Guthrie Theater and The Children’s Theatre Company – they house over 30,000 costumes which are usually only available for rent. But you can buy stuff -
THREE DAYS ONLY

Half-pint truly
Some of the sizing is absurdly small (22″ waist – who has that? Oh yeah, actresses) but that is in no way everything. Go soon for the best stuff!

SaraSally the Flashing Elf

I miss Skoopy already
My BFF Skoopy left on a jet plane yesterday heading to Belgium where she will live and work for a few months before moving on to her ultimate destination in China. As you can see she is very happy.

Where I Am, Where I'll Be
I, however, can feel the continent is darker for her absence. Fortunately she sent me a gigantic box of colorful clothes so it’s like I have her with me.

The H is afraid of me now that I am channeling Skoopy.

Hmmm … wait a second … this means I have somewhere to stay for free in Belgium.
I HAVE 6 MONTHS TO GET TO BELGIUM!!!

What I Do At Work – Final Edition
I know Halloween is past but I still have this last set of pictures from Costume Rentals. Originally we were going to have Fairy Day, but then my boss texted somebody that idea and instead it came out Dairy Day. We decided Dairy Day would be much funnier. However, that particular day turned out to be incredibly busy and everybody took their costumes off by 1:00 except for the front desk girl who was stuck in a full cow body-suit complete with pink rubber udder. I left my costume on too, but only because I had on such comfy cowboy gear. I really wish I had a picture of Doc as Stilton. Ah well. Next year perhaps.
Anyway, here I am. kd lang eat your heart out.
