Neon Green 80s
We were so cool, so bad, so rad.
Recently I rediscovered this picture of my little sister and me in matching homemade neon green outfits circa 1984. When we were very little, my mom made most of our clothes, culminating each spring with beautiful Easter dresses. She continued through the mid-80s then (gave up?) opted for store bought just as I hit middle school and she started working more. Shame on me for coveting the name brands at the mall.
Make no mistake – it is not an accident that my shirt is oh-so-casually falling off my shoulder. I was trying to distract from the glasses.
I don’t know which is my favorite part – my sister’s tiny side ponytail or a that we’re rocking our neon green shorts-suits with matching lace trimmed ankle socks AND jellies.
A moment in time. A moment in time.
Slacker Returns – Spring Update
Hi all,
Apparently time flies when you’re overwhelmed and busy. Spring has been unusually warm here in Minnesota, which is great, but I’m also feeling a bit stressed. I feel both ahead (already bought stain for the deck) and behind (shouldn’t we have the deck painted already?)
Here’s a little of what I’ve been up to:
- Learned to ride a bicycle. Wheee! The Husband gave me a spiffy folding Dahon for my birthday and all I can say is, “Where have you been all my life?” What on earth was I afraid of? This is great! Yesterday we folded up both our bikes in the car and then went to the county part where we road for one hour and 15 minutes. I love it love it love it.
- LOST the peep diorama contest. I mean we totally completely lost and were shamelessly DISSED by the Pioneer Press which failed to not only give us at least an honorary mention, but didn’t even name us in the article, which listed like 30 of the dioramas. Next year it’s the D.C. contest for us. Bastards.
- Continued to battle the attack of the scale which has devastated my plant collection. I’ve had to throw out too many of my beloved plants. There’s a rotating plant hospital in my entryway as I try to destroy and isolate the pests.
- Cancelled T.V. That’s right. We have no television in our house. It’s kind of freeing. You should try it. We can watch specific shows on the internet of course, but there’s no aimlessly flipping through channels or sitting through commercials. It’s always nice to stick it to the man.
- Took a quick trip to Missouri. Just hanging out for a couple of days with family. Ate at the scariest Taco Bell in Iowa. Also saw a childhood friend with whom I had lost touch. We had such a great time – I voluntarily spent four hours with children and ENJOYED MYSELF. We sat on the porch and drank pink lemonade. Now I keep experiencing cravings for no-bake cookies.
- The H and I have been planning and preparing our deck & patio renovation. We decided we just can’t go on having the saddest little patio on the block. Especially after last year’s battle with the chipmunk-gopher-burrowing beastie wrecked such havoc on our yard.
Okay then, hope you’re all having a great spring. I’ll try to post more for May.
I miss the kitty!
Time to get organized for the new year.
