tea and tarts?

Here’s a few more translations from English to American …

pea souper – a thick fog decended on London

jacket – baked potato, often with beans

mash – potatoes are mashed, peas are mushed

tart, prozzy, strollop – prostitutes

tommies, toms – prostitutes, used by police

kerb crawling – I saw a street sign that said “No Kerb Crawling”.  Apparently, “men can be prosecuted for ‘kerb crawling’ for prostitutes, but paying for sex in a private apartment is not a crime.”
