Visit to a Japanese fabric store

One of the best surprises of my travels was visiting fabric stores in Japan and Macau.  Carrie and Steph requested fabric, and while I don’t sew, I certainly qualify as crafty and can spend hours running my fingers over beautiful textiles.  Walking into a fabric store in China was exactly like doing so in the U.S. or, I suspect, anywhere else in the world.  Staffed by women with women examining fabrics and discussing patterns – I know this even though I can’t understand them.  How many meters or yards, it’s the same conversation and comforting.  I think of my mother and grandmother.
